PRESS RELEASE FOR DRUNK DRIVER HITS 2 CCSO VEHICLES

On February 17, 2015, at approximately 1948 hours, Deputy S. Moran and Deputy D. Naughton were patrolling the Lusby area of Calvert County, Maryland.  As they were travelling northbound on HG Truman Rd., in the area of Dowell Elementary school, they observed a motorist stopped on the southbound shoulder with their emergency flashers activated. The Deputies stopped adjacent to the disabled vehicle to allow a pedestrian to cross the roadway in front of them.  The disabled motorist advised the deputies they did not need assistance, they were just waiting to pick someone up.  As Deputy D. Naughton was pulling away from the disabled motorist, a vehicle struck the rear of his patrol vehicle.  Deputy D. Naughton activated his emergency equipment and pulled off the roadway to make contact with the vehicle that had just struck him. The striking vehicle accelerated and steered around Deputy Naughton’s vehicle in an attempt to flee the scene.  Deputy Moran heard the impact and was in the process of making a U-Turn to check on Dep. Naughton when he was struck in the left rear quarter panel by the Jeep attempting to flee from the crash scene.  Both vehicles came to rest on the shoulder of H G Truman Rd.  When Dep. Moran and Dep. Naughton contacted the operator of the Jeep, they detected the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage emitting from her breath. Standardized Field Sobriety Tests were administered and Dep. Moran subsequently arrested the female for DUI.

The female operator of the Jeep was identified as Noreen Marie Iannopollo, a white female born 11-6-1966, of Lusby. Iannopollo, was placed under arrest and charged with numerous traffic offenses to include:
  • Driving under the influence of alcohol
  • Fleeing the scene of an accident
  • Driving without a license

The collision caused disabling damage to Dep. Moran’s assigned patrol vehicle and minor damage to Dep. Naughton’s assigned patrol vehicle. Both Deputies sustained minor injuries during the crashes.
