Between July 20th and July 24th,
2015 Detectives Kevin Hall and Andrew Clas, both members of the Calvert County
Sheriff's Office School Liaison Unit, attended the National Association of
School Resource Officers (NASRO) basic school resource officer course in
Dover, Delaware. Members of police agencies from Maryland, Delaware, and
Connecticut completed the 40 hour course that emphasizes three main areas of
instruction: -Functioning as a police officer in the school setting - Working
as a resource and problem solver -Developing teaching skills.
The mission of the National
Association of School Resource Officers is to provide the highest quality of
training to school-based law enforcement officers in order to promote safer
schools and safer kids. NASRO is an organization for school-based law
enforcement officers, school administrators, and school security/safety
professionals working as partners to protect students, faculty and staff, and
their school community.
The Calvert County Sheriff's
Office has sent numerous detectives through the NASRO training course in years
past. It is important that School Liaison deputies have the most current
and best training available to assist with their day to day activities during
the school year.
